“Deathlayer” the name says it all for this rare and beautiful German breed. Deathlayers got their name from the German word Totleger which means “deathlayer”. This remarkable breed gets their name from laying an egg per day until the day they die. Deathlayers will lay around 250 medium sized white to off white eggs per year per hen. Deathlayers are average sized birds with hens weighing in at around 4.5 lbs and roosters reaching 5 lbs in weight. Deathlayers love to free range if possible and are great foragers. However, these birds can survive in controlled enviroments as well. We have found this breed to be very cold hardy with an excellent temperament around our handlers here at the farm.
