Swedish Flower Hens are a mix of some rare and older breeds that were transported to Sweden hundreds of years ago. Swedish Flower Hens are often referred to as a “Landrace” breed. Meaning a breed that has been developed or cultivated over a period of time either with natural or cultural environment changes. This unique heritage is part of what makes this breed so special.
Swedish Flower Hens are considered to be large fowl with roosters weighing in at around 8lbs. Hens typically weigh around 6.5 lbs full grown. Making this breed a great dual purpose bird. Swedish Flower Hens lay a pale brown egg and produce around 150 eggs per year per hen.
This breed is often referred to as “Blommehona” the Sweden definition of this is bloom hen. Swedish Flower Hens are often associated with wild flowers because you never know what to expect! These birds are truly amazing with their vast variety of feathers!
Along with their striking and beautiful array of various colored feathers these birds have an unusual mild temperament that follows. Swedish Flower Hens have proven to be a gentle and very docile breed on our farm. Roosters are typically very confident around all the farm hands but never aggressive. Swedish Flower Hens are excellent foragers and love to free range. However, these birds do love human interaction as well and could become a pet very quickly if aloud!
